AutoTrain Curiosity

Post by truly_bent »

The more I get the chance to use Gearotic, the more interesting tools I'm finding. I've just discovered the AutoTrain function and decided to try and use it to add the 12:1 reduction needed from the one hour center wheel, for the minute hand, to the twelve hour hand. I'm using Clayton Boyer's "A Practical Guide to Wooden Wheeled Clock Design" as my guide. In it he suggests using the most common 3 x 4 double gear train in a 30/10 and 32/8 configuration.

I plugged the correct (?) parameters into the AutoTrain function, giving a wide enough latitude on the Min and Max Teeth values, and expected to see the above ratios in the list, but they're not there. If I reduce the Min and Max parameters to 8 and 32 respectively, I get the message that "no such ratios exist" (see attached). Okay, what am I doing wrong here, or is this a bug in Gearotic?

Thanks,
Jeff

Edit: Somehow didn't manage to attach both screen grabs. Done now

Hi Jeff:

A bug existed in the calculator until last week, please redownload the development version, using the most recent I get
results as in the photo, so I think its just an older version.

Thx
Art
