Flourish Wizard

Post by marklazarz »

I realize that the wizard is a few months away but I have a couple of questions...  it appears that the graphic contains a lot of crossed lines, will these be suitable for "V" carving?  Can the output be edited in a DXF editor?

Hi Mark:

The output will be DXF or bitmap, the crosses lines are due to the way Im generating them, but Im recoding now that it has proven to
produce pretty decorations so that the florish will hopefully be one polyline from start to end with no crossed lines, thus suitable for VCarving,
or extruding to 3d.

Hi Art,
I've already got about 10 places I'd like to put flourishes including on gear faces.  The most usual location for flourishes such as this is likely at corner embellishments - I love the idea.

John:

Art keeps coming up with amazing embellishments to Gearotic.  Flourishes was a totally unexpected, yet valuable addition to an already awesome program.  I love the idea as well!

>>Flourishes was a totally unexpected..

:), good. Heres what else Im looking into..

One of the best things about Gearotic is that no-one really complains when I go off on tangents such as flourishes.
Its so nice to be in a project that really has no end target. As a program Gearotic fills its promises and
has long met that target, and I find myself in retirement drawn to so many areas of interest and so many
fields that are new to me, that when I find myself looking for something like a ruler or a flourish, it just seems
like a good idea to add it in code so I don't have to look anymore. The new wizards also produce rulers,
compasses, clock faces, tachmeters, text and will get added capabilities each time I find myself wanting
something Im either incapable of doing in Cad or find a PITA to do. A Flourish is a perfect example.

My goal, is to keep adding things that interest me, combined with things suggested that also interest me,
to see what we end up with as a global program. At times I know it gets pretty eclectic, sometimes an addition
will have to do with gears, sometimes nothing at all to do with them. I see that trend continuing, with the only
real requirement is output a hobbiest can use.

An addition is planned to the pendulum calculator as well for compound pendulums as Im planning a new ticker and think
Id like to use such a thing.  I have some old camera lenses I think would look great as pendulum bob masses
in a carved wooden holder..perhaps magnifying a compass scale as it swings.. you know, when we talk pendulums
and their timing we do so under the "small angle" assumptions which accompany the formulas.. Im kinda
interested in compound pendulums in the context of "large angle" equations, and wondering about a ticker
that could perhaps use a much wider swing angle, perhaps as much as 330 degrees.. the period of
a pendulum approaches infinity as you approach 360 degrees of swing.. or so I read, but Ive never played with
such a mechanic.. Im thinking for a ticker it could be an interesting depth to plumb... I have a deck to build
and a rental house to renovate, so its all just something I think about as I swing a hammer..

Thanks for your comments, Im glad the process looks interesting and more importantly useful to people,
I can think of a few places I could use a corner fourish in pieces myself.

Enjoy your summer..

Hi Art:

It seems that your interests are analogous to most users of Gearotic (mine for certain) so anything you add enhances the value to your customers.  Years ago when I owned a photography studio, I purchased a vector clipart package from http://clipartdesign.com/ultimate_ornam ... a_pack.htm and used it for many things including V-Carving with my CNC.  Although this commercial collection includes more than just flourishes, I would say that flourishes was it's main appeal to me.  Thank you for including the features you mentioned in future releases, can hardly wait to try them out.

Don't think about it so much that you mash your thumb or fingers and can't type
