Helical gear on a HAAS with 4th axis

Post by rjim »

Hi all,

I need to make PTFE helical gears on a HAAS milling machine with 4 axis capabilities.

I've downloaded the Gearotic demo version  and enjoyed designing the gears and preparing the CAM.
It is really fast and easy!

I think Gearotic is what I need but I am afraid about the g-code output.
Will it work fine in a HAAS machine?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Best Regards,

Rafa

Hi Rafa:

I havent used a haas myself, but Gearotics output is simple G1, G0 type of moves in order to match as many machines as possible.
The Gcode orientation can be set for any direction facing 4th axis, but as standard it uses the letter "A" as the 4th axis. This is editable by the user as is the coordinates ( as I recall a Haas requires 2 decimals on all rotary axis coordinates?

Anyway, it should all work, or be workable with editing the post processor file, or the end Gcode to get the gear your trying to make.

I've done the payment right now.

I'll update you as soon as I try it.

Hi Rafa:

Id just cut the first one in the air first so you can verify its all good.
If you hit a gcode problem, let me know, usually the post processor file can fix it..

Thx
Good Luck,

Hi Art,

First tests are working better than expected ;-)

Just cutting in the air but it looks good.

"A" code with 3 decimals is working fine. I've added just a couple of lines to make it work.

As son as I make a real part I'll let you know.

Thanks for all,

Best Regards,

Rafa

Rafa:

Great, yell if you have any trouble, but if it looks good in the air, usually folks have no problems
and get a good gear. Orientation setup is usually the only errors I see last couple years..
