I am trying to make up a gear train that uses 3 shafts and 4 compound gears. shaft #1 is used only by the driver. The drive chain then leaps back and fourth between the other wod posts. I cant seem to get the simulation to drive the gears properly. I have been playing with the "add linkage" and "remove linkage" buttons but I can't get it right.
I have attached an image of the test gear train. - all best! - Rick.
multiple compound gears on shaft problem
Re: multiple compound gears on shaft problem
Hi Rick:
Looks like it should all work out fine. You need remember only one rule..
"Any gear may drive mutiple gears, but may be driven by only one."
So, start with the driver. Select it and look at its linkage.
1) If the linkage says its driving a gear it shouldnt, remove that linkage.
2) Then hit add link and add the gear it should be driving.
3) If, when you select "Add Linkage", the gear you wish to drive
doesnt show up, cancel that. Look at the gear that IS driving it, and remove that linkage.
Then use step 2 on the failed step.
In essence just build up the train one at a time, and if you cant select a gear you need
to select, its because something else is already driving it, find and kill that connection.
