I am new to Gearotic and I have sat through the video tutorials and they look nothing like the version 2.0 I have downloaded - possibly they relate to older versions.
I have designed a project with a cage and spur but I cannot find how I can modify the backlash mentioned in the videos.
Backlash in version 2.0
Re: Backlash in version 2.0
Hi:
Backlash in G2 is primarily done with tooth thickness on the spur. Usually set to .5 for 50% tooth and 50% space, set it to
.48 for a 2% backlash to what it meshes to for example.
Many of the video's are from previous versions, check them all for the G2 versions that are also there. In the fall Ill
be adding links to the appropriate videos in the help bars to help with that.
Thx

I just noticed you were using a spur and cage.. there is no way to offset the shaft in G2 as yet, and thats the only real way to
make backlash on that gear pair. I will add near the top of my list a way to offset a shaft location for the times when its needed.
Sorry for the confusion..

Re: Backlash in version 2.0
Thanks Art
I just wanted to recut my gears with a better profile designed for pins rather than the standard involute which is not.
I can add an allowance in my CAM software to compensate in the meantime.

I know its a bugger for backlash in cages.. so I added a backlash adjustment to it this morning. It will appear
in the next release. Also, I fixed the fact it should remember your last tooth count and such.. ( that was annoying..)
Anyway, on next update it will act better, thx for pointing out I missed that..

Re: Backlash in version 2.0
Hi Art,
Since you're looking at cages - With the sizes that I work with (1/4" ply and 1/8" pins on a cage that is 1") I find that I would really like more "meat" between the pins the the outside of the cage. I thought there was a way to do this in GM but I can't seem to do it in GT.

As of next update the RimRatio of the spokes will control extra meat on the cages..
