Hello friends, I exported to DXF a non-circular gear, I import it to solidworks, the sketch is constructed to based on segments, There is a problem with this, I will get some problem if  I can not get a curved defined sketch, some one face the same problem ? How does the sketch looks like in Autocad ?

DSagarra;

Gearotic uses line segments with it's dxf, our view was they are more universal in general and most DXF importers
will accept them. I do not own Solidworks so can't help, but I know it works fine in my AutoCAD.

Cheers

Hi:

  Gearotic puts out point line segments as a way of keeping accurate. Most cad programs have options to
convert if necessary, I use line segments as they typically are more accurate than a bezier conversion and the user can convert as they wish in various cad programs. I dont use SolidWorks either (Out of my pay grade. :) )
but my usual cad programs dont seem to have any issues..

I do it fine right now but I saw some interference, first in solid works but later in Gearotic 2 too,  in every non-circular gear, attached a screen shot with  default settings non-circular gears.

Hi:

  Yes, non-circulars are toothed by virtual hob, and I have default set to 50% tooth width for tigth fit, I recommend
lowering to the .47 or so for most uses. Youll see that allows a bit of backlash and stops the interferance. NonCirculars have
that kind of responce at times due to the way the pressure line varies..

Width smaller than 0.5 give me more interference, greater than 0.5 no interference. I will use aluminum and a EDM (0.02 mm precision)machine do you have a extra advice ?

Hi:

  I think your there. Sorry, you are correct, the width of the hole is being set as the control actually
controls the shaper, not the gear when doing non circulars. I think you should be good, if no interferance is seen, I expect
youll get a fine gear. Drop us a photo, I love the look of EDM gears. :)
