Gear Train Puzzle

Hi Art,

What I want to do is change the gear ratio from a Negator Spring power to a driven wheel.  (Negator is a little weak.)
A Negator type  spring drives a 30 tooth Wheel which in turn drives an 18 tooth idler - the idler is just there to gain some needed distance.  The 18 tooth idler drives another 18 tooth wheel which  is the final wheel and in a fixed position.

The initial arbor and the final arbor are both in a fixed locations.  Obviously I can generate a 27 tooth drive wheel (desired) and an 18 tooth idler within Gearotic - but when I go the final gear to be driven the Module is changed from the initial gears and I must maintain the Module if it is to drive the final gear.

I think (pretty sure) I must move the idler arbor - but is there any way to predict what Module I should use to maintain the three gear set up with the initial and final arbor positions fixed?

Hi Art,
The solution (work around) that I have come up with is to let the calculator make two gears that are the correct "fixed" arbors apart.

Then create a 27 tooth drive gear and place it on the initial arbor.

The create an 18 tooth gear and place it on the final fixed arbor.

Finally create another 18 tooth gear and roll it on the drive gear until it meshes with the 18 tooth final.  I can them delete the first two calculated gears  and only have the drive, idler, final left.  Perhaps clumsy but it works except it won't simulate.

John:

To simulate it, youd probably have to delete the link from diver to that gear, then link the meshing gear to it....
Should  work.. thats not a bad workaround..
