The See-Saw Pendulum

The attached document is a bit mathematical but might be of interest to anybody who wants to make a clock with a slightly unorthodox pendulum.
The .pdf document explains the idea. The Excel spreadsheet takes away some of the pain if you decide to make one.

Please note that this forum will not allow you to upload an Excel spreadsheet directly so this file has been zipped to make it acceptable.

Thank you for that, thats awesome, a great explanation.. Ill have to try it
this summer, it sounds like an excellent way to make a clock smaller..or a ticker run
slower.. I like it..

Thanks Art.

I have this cunning plan to make a version where the pendulum is constructed as a triangle. Therefore there is no vertical shaft which must swing clear of the arbors running fore and aft through the clock. Some interesting possibilities come out of that.

At present I'm trying to get my prototype MDF clock running sufficiently friction-free. If and when it's working I'll put up some pictures of the clock and the DIY CNC router I've used to make it.

Thank you for your pendulum uploads.  I am anxious to try a few variations and see how I can work them into clock designs.

Just to close this topic off, Gearotic's pendulum calculator now contains the code for the
spreadsheet in this topic.

Thx
