Gearotic 3 manual? Gcode processing properties? Fig 89?

Post by forhire »

New gearotic user (v3.0200). The manual included is for Gearotic2. Is there a manual for V3? The GM.pdf in the install folder is for V2.

Looking at Figure 89 it appears I should be able to specify approaching on the Y axis when using a shaped cutter on the 4th axis, but I cannot find this option in gearotic3 dev.

Also, the toolbox doesn't appear to have an option for shaped involute or fly cutters. Any suggestions? Is slitting saw the best alternative?

When I post my gcode for a basic spur gear it assumes the cutter is approaching from the top rather than the side. Even when I select a slitting saw tool the posted code is using the Z axis even though the render shows the saw to the side (Y axis).

Hi ForHire:

The current manual is the V2 one, there is a V3 sitting on a usb on my desk, but its holding for final edits. Im deep into code for Gearotics CAD
program so Im afraid Ive been a bit slow on the final editing on the
v3 manual. Always feel free to ask though, we're aware the manual is
lacking and always happy to answer questions.

I just went through the process to be sure. First, to approach from the
side, select your tool as a slit saw, all this really does it put the tool to the side as all slit saws would have to be. Then, by selecting Involute toolpath
on the toolpath type selection, ( and not selecting rooting or tangental or anything, only involute), the GCode will then do its approach on the Y axis
( the side..).
Now this also depends on the 4th axis setup setting. The above assumes you have selected your A Axis as facing the X++ direction. I verified the
output code as above will put out code that keeps Z at zero.. ( so the involute or saw will not move up or down, ) and that the incremental approach is on the Y. It matches the simulation output here.

So, in toolbox select slitsaw ( for orientation of tool ), then on the toolpath type select only involute paths. This setting really just means to do
only center-line passes incrementing inwards on Y ( in the case on slitsaws ) or incremental Z in the case of a normal tool.).

Yell if this is confusing or you'd like more explanation.

Thanks Art. I have it posting correctly now. It appears it wasn't updating something when I changed the tool to the slitting saw. I deleted my gear and restarted gearotic and it worked.

Hi:

Yes, if you change a setting, always uncheck the toolpath, then recheck it. So in this case pressing "involute" a couple times should have reset it.

But, so long as its working, your good to go. :)
