Tangential Shaving Doesn't work

Hi Art,

Using a cutter smaller than the suggested max. The tool actually doesn't touch the tooth - so the toolpath generated is farther apart from the tooth than the tool's radius. The only way I seem to be able to get tangent is by defining a smaller tool, then it generates the tool path and then go to the tooltable and change the tool diameter to a larger one, without recalculating the toolpath.

This is with the latest dev version.

Hi Dan:

Are you sure the axis is rotating in correct direction? Its typically the issue with 4th axis.

Ill be away starting today for 10 days.. so let me also mention, the simulation shoudl always match the output, so see if it gives any clues on the error...

Hi Art,

The simulation seems to be matching the final result on the 4th axis.

I can see the simulation being wrong. The tool cuts through the teeth in simulation or doesn't touch the teeth if too small in diameter.

Dan:

Check carefully the tool setting itself, it can be something like Taper being selected, or some setting that isnt very intuitive...

Im about to run to the airport so I cant dig in much, but Im happy to run the project here when I return.. if it can wait till the 17th..

Hi Art,

No problem. Will wait your return. Have a good time.

I checked the tool setting as it was the first thing I suspected.

Hi I have version 3.01200 and made this wheel, it was perfect in combination with the pinion.

Another example helical gear, cutting with endmill.

Rien;

Thanks for sharing, I'm still impressed every time I see one of these get cut this way. Well done..

Still doesn't work for me here. If a smaller diameter tool is selected it doesn't touch the tooth. If a larger tool selected it cuts through the tooth. See attached screenshots please.

Hi Dan,

Do you use the same version as I do? I have Ver 3.01200
Perhaps you can send me the dimensions of the wheel you will make, I can try then to construct it here on my Gearotic and see what came out.

Hi Dan:

Must be some setting Im not seeing. Can you zip up your tools.dat file
and the project file of the gear your attempting to cut and post it here?
Having your tools.dat file will show me all the settings you have for
the tools. Ill try to recreate what your settings are. Generally, if clearance
is set to zero, your tool should just kiss the edge of the profile on each pass..

Hi Art,

The clearance setting it was. Apparently was not understanding its purpose.

Thanks a lot!
