I guess this is a stupid question:
How do I make a gear in Gearotic with teeth that look like this:
Thank you...Richard
Help please
Re: Help please
Hi Richard:
Gearotics ratchet selection is as close as you can get in gearotic. Though you can run vexx at same time and import the ratchet into vexx to modify the roots to be circular. ( Or in any other cad.). If I needed one with circular roots, Id make a ratchet of the right tooth count, then export to cad to edit circles into the roots.
It can be extruded after modification.

Re: Help please
Art,
I was able to get the ratchet into Vexx, but I don't know what you mean when you say:
Edit circles into the roots?
Sorry...Richard

Re: Help please
Richard:
If you use Vexx's gearotic menu item while you have a ratchet on the project screen
you should get a screen like #1 below. My thought was to edit it by adding a circle and line
as shown in #2, and then use the scissors to clip away the rest as in #3.
You can then use circular array copy to make all the teeth liek that and clip away the
remaining parts to get a gear as your original photo shows.
By just selecting the circle and line added and using array copy for 7 copies it wil build
what I think your looking for.

Re: Help please
Richard:
Nah, it isnt obvious. But generally if you wish any weird tooth shape, just generate
a normal gear shape of the right tooth count, place it at a center of 0,0 in Vexx,
modify one tooth from start to end of tooth, erase all the rest of the gear and use array
copy to make the gear with the same tooth count you started with.
You can use any tooth shape you wish that way ..for those weird requirements.. :)
Have a great XMas.
