One Off DYI Build

Have an idea to cut gears our of alum and/ brass. Not pleased with cnc routers on the open market. DYI time (Ballscrews, supporte rails, dual Y steppers...).

Trying to decide on steppers motors. These look promising: https://www.moonsindustries.com/p/nema-23-standard-hybrid-stepper-motors/ml23hsap4150-000004611110011251

I would almost go with servos like Clear Path but online support is about nil from what I can tell.

Any suggestions?

Mike

Bit expensive for my blood at $62US each.. The ones on ebay for about
20$ seem to be a bit higher current ( 2.8Amp) and same size. Search Ebay for Nema 23 stepper.
Ive never really gotten bad steppers when I go cheap for them.

I agree. They are a little pricey but they have about twice the torque of most of the cheaper ones and less current draw. Is it worth the trade off is the question I guess.

I considered servos for their more constant torque. But $$$. The Moon units (apologies to Frank Zappa) were a compromise

I guess it depends on what your driving or how you gear it...
