Thinking outside the box here.
Well half thinking that's why I'm asking ???
Cutting a spline and I want to use a slitting saw as the diameter is thin but machine orientation decrees it has to be cut in the 3 o'clock position not 12 o'clock.
Sooooooooooooo in my book A stays the same, Y gets transposed to Z and Z gets transposed to Y
???????
Flames, insults, flying bricks ?

No Flames, no insults, no problems. :)
Yes, that should work fine, ( unless it doesn't, in which case I never said that! ).

Cheers.
Never read that ;)
Actually going to cheat, I'm going to try to make a slotting tool for an involute spline in Hardened HSS by using one of those 1mm wide cutting disks with a couple of washers either side to support the disk and leave about 10mm showing.
Cut the spline with one disk, then swap disks and repeat hoping that the wear on the second disk is acceptable.
Only got to do one tooth but I want it as good as possible, years ago I would have spent ages hand grinding one
