Pitch 28, 32, 48 - what difference?

Post by Marc Tetreault »

Hi,

What difference (gear and teeth sizes aside) we can expect from these pitches (or what do you think if you did not experiment these pitches)?

I will do stereo lithography of my gears.
I once purchased gears for remote controled cars. The pitch was 48. I do not know why they choose that pitch.
In my case it is for driving a focus ring on a camera.
Of course, bigger the theet, les problems expected if printing resolution is low.

So, I am starting with a pitch of 28.
Any comment about going with more precision or less?

Hi:

DP or Diametric Pitch, relates only to the Tooth size. As the DP increases, the tooth size decreases. SO the number of teeth and the pitch of the gear determine the gear size. There is no other real effect. Obviously the smaller the gear ( higher the DP ) the less torque it can provide though. In your application I suspect you can use the DP to
simply get to the size you need, I doubt you need to worry about the torque it will survive. Since the tooth shape is
the same, there really is no other effect than size for you to worry about though. Its not really a question of precision, their all equally precise, just different sizes..

Let me know if Im misunderstanding what your asking.. :)
