Hi,
Gap:
I see in software Gearotic that the theet of one gear ar pretty close to those of the gear beside.
1) Is there a risk it could make a problem?
2) is it possible to set a gap within?
3) Is there a drawback doing it?
4) Is it just a matter of just increasing distance between both gears?
5) What could be good gap?
Filets:
6) Is there a way to set a filet at base and corner of all teeth?
7) If not possible in that software, is there something needed to know in order to doing them ourselve in the CAD software?
(such as, do we need to set filets at top of gear smaller than those at teeth roots?
8) if so, any idea of a good difference to keep?
Thanks,

Re: Gears in Gearotic (gab and filet)
Hi:
When you create a gear and put it on the screen, there is a box labeled "BackLash", this is a settnig for how far apart you wish the gears to be. Try a .1 as a test in backlash, youll see then a .1 of "looseness" between the gears.
I do recommend some backlash, even if just a small amount. I use .1 to .2mm on mine, so about .003 to .005 or so in standard. This keeps you from having binding trouble when you build your device. ( and allows a bit of tolerance from the building of the gear.).

Thanks,
And what about any filet?
And what about any filet?

Fillets I cant yet do for you. You could modify them in a cad prgram from the dxf's, but generally the tooth profiles follow the spec'ed
curves for them so adding things liek fillets, while handy to some, violate the standard shape expected by many others, so I havent as yet allowed such modification, but I am looking to do that in the future..

Sorry ARt, I do not find the box labeled "BackLash".

Mark:
It appears when you press "Add Wheel" or "Add pinion". Its the bottom editbox onthe width dialog..

Re: Gears in Gearotic (gab and filet)
Thanks.
But about backlask, do you apply some on just a gear or both?
So, if I go for .003", do I apply .0015" on one and .0015" on the other?
Or can be put all on the same gear?

Marc:
All backlash really does is add that amount to the shaft disance, it doesnt change the gear at all. So if you lke to have .01 backlash typically, just leave the number at .01, it has no effect on a gear bring placed on a shaft, it affect only the distance the program will use to place a meshing gear on another gear.
Thx
