Working on my first escapement and need to decide weight for the bob
Wondered if this is a contributory factor as to my lack of success.
Is it too heavy or too light ?


Googled but no help
Is there a method or formula ?

The weight of the bob is totally arbitrary, however if you go too light then things like air draughts wii affect it,  if you go too heavy its hard on the clock frame.

I have read of a clock with a 30 pound bob and the bob was too heavy for the clock so it had its own suspension from the wall.  This was an american regulator clock.

Since there is no formulae for calculating the weight you have to go with a rule of thumb - which I would say that for most of us go for 4 ozs. to one pound and it will work with little problem.
