No-Resize Helicals.

Post by ArtF »

Hi all:

Here is a photo of a couple of  helicals created under the no-resize option.
They were cut this week by a user named George M who found a problem in
the code recently. My thanks to him for working with me to solve the issue.

As a reminder,  Helicals come in two sizing flavours. Normal and no-resize.

Normally a helical increases its pitch diameter by the cosine of the helical angle in
order to ensure the tooth on its helical angle is the correct width. This makes the
gear larger as you increase its helical angle.

Some gear makers though, offer a no-resized version. This allows for the
replacement of two spurs with two helicals of the same size. The downside
is the tooth width is smaller, but in a wide facewidth this wouldnt weaken
it much.

This photo shows the narrower tooth with for the no-resize option, and George
reports a perfect mesh and he's quite pleased. My thanks to his noticing
the tooth was too narrow originally as a tool compensation error was in there.

The versions online for the past couple weeks contain the bug fix for this.
