A couple of mini-projects

First picture is a test cut in some blue machining wax. A crashed end mill gave a lovely pinstripe effect! The orange blob is my fingernail for a size comparison.

My intention is to build a mold with a complete gearbox, take a negative silicone rubber cast, and then a final output in plastic. I'll use this technique for building small robots and remote control contraptions.

Second pic is the Antikythera mechanism, simulated in Gearotic. I'll build this too.... one day.... one day!

Very nice. You know, I cant count the number of times Ive seen that greek mechanism
being simulated or built. For some reason it really captures people..  :)

I think that building a model of the Antikythera using Gearotic should be one of your first "achievements".  No better way to  learn the in's and outs of the program that that.  There are at least 5 different versions of the Antikythera mechanism and none are guaranteed to be the right one.  So you can pick and choose the one that works for you.  And even then you can start off by just getting the tooth counts right, then move onto getting the real triangular teeth to work, and then getting the shafts to all align up and fit correctly.    There's a whole world right there.
