Am i right in thinking that a pendulums working length is from its
pivot to its center of mass, rather than pivot to end.

Yes, its actually f5rom center of mass, which means the rod and all is considered but since thats so complex, most pendulums
allow for motion of the bob up or down the shaft to find the sweet point.

I feel pretty ignorant asking this question, but why does a pendulum with a 1 second period and an escapement with 60 teeth result in the escapement taking 1 minute and 1 second to make a full turn? Shouldn't it take 1 minute flat?

Its a rounding of the data, the pendulum length vs gravity formula that gives you the 1 second
creates a pendulum thats length is about 10 decimal places after the zero, when rounded to 2 decimals,
(or 4) its probably rounding upwards making the pendulum longer thus increasing the period slightly.
Just a small change in length makes quite a difference.. :)
