Hi Art,
I thought you might get a kick out of this.  The original design is from Clayton Boyer - I love his creations.  Anyway the thing does what its supposed to.  (nothing practical)

This is my case for adding 4Bar back into Gearotic.

lol.. amazing what 4bars can do isnt it..

There was a video of software last year  that claimed Disney was releasing a
designer for 4 bar.. but I havent heard any more of it yet.. It was specifically
designed for making things like that.. I was wondering what kind of torture it
would be to do something similar..  looks awfully complex...

For grins I emailed the Zurich Disney Research Labs and asked them if it was available for non-commercial hobbyist use.

I don't expect it is, or that it's even practical to figure out how to use it or what to run it on, but thought it was worth a try.  Likely it would come with a bevy of lawyers, mountains of NDA forms, require NSA level security, and a requirement that it be protected by a flock of attack trained killer gerbils.

I'll post whatever answer, it any, they come back with.

Kirk:

lol, yes, that my feeling. Disney isnt known for slack in copyright.. lol, they'd sue you for
calling a machine a bit of "Mickey mouse.." . :)

The video was great at explaining how they did it though.. pretty damn clever. I dont think
youll ever see it released.. an inhouse movie robot creation tool I figure..

by all means let us know what they say.. Im betting you dont get a responce, and your phone is now tapped... lol

I don't hear any tapping, but there is an occasional mouse squeak :)

I got a response today from Disney:

Dear Kirk

Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately the paper is not available for public.
Thank you for your understanding and kind regards

I kinda figured that would be the responce. As a tool for an animation studio Id think I
wouldnt want others having it either..

Here's a link to a description that doesn't start an automatic download.  It's been on my take a look list for way too long, still hasn't worked up to the top.  Have you been using Linkage and what have you done with it?

Sorry about that auto download. The guys at work and I have only played around with it, it's a lot of fun, but it seems it could be useful too.
