Hi Art
I ran into a strange issue while renaming objects in my ChronoSim simulation model. Since my ChronoSim is way to large to upload the .gth file I created a very simple example to see if I could recreate the problem.
EscapeRename-1.gth
I created a simple model using a recoil escapemant, addded a couple of gears and a couple of indicators. I ran the simulation and it worked properly.
EscapeRename-2.gth EscapeRenameIssue.jpg (composite of 3 screen captures)
I then used the "Rename Object" option on the property tab to rename "Ratchet" to "EscapeWheel". The immediate result was that the original order of objects on Shaft was Ratchet--Driver, Spur, Indicator was changed to Spur, Indicator, EscapeWheel--Driver and when I pressed simulate button there was no motion although a simulation speed was noted on the screen. See the jpg, upper screen capture.
I then saved the model as EscapeRename-2.gth I'm sending the last 2 enclosures as a zip file since all 3 together exceed the 4500Kbyte file size.
I closed Gearotics2, restarted it, and then opened EscapeRename-2. See the middle Screencapture.
The "EscapeWheel" is no longer indicated as a Driver and the simulation causes no motions. I then tried to use the "Set as driver(Master)" command on "EscapeWheel". Normally this would result in an error message "Sorry, Clock movements can not change masters" however Gearotics allowed me to set the EscapeWheel as master. (See bottom screen capture). The simulation would still not work.
I followed all of the linkages of EscapeRename-1 and verified that the same linkages existed in EscapeRename-2.
Any Ideas?
Bill

Re: Possible Issue with Rename Object & Escape Wheels
Hi Bill:
Let me check it out.. Im pretty sure there was some obscure rule about the escapements and how their naming attached certain functions.
I should have put safeties to stop renaming anything that had to stay, but I may not have.
Ill check it out and either fix it, or let you know how to. This one goes way back, but I know in the back of my head where it lies I think....
Thx

When I used to program, I found it was impossible to idiot proof everything. I've been known to push the limits of some software packages to the breaking point & sometimes finding undocumented useful features.
I was kind of hoping that perhaps with selective re-linking I could trick the software into making the ratchet into a driven element rather than a driver.

:) , you may indeed fool it in many ways, but the escapements in particular are picky... as animated objects
their a bit tricky to make and I cheat a lot to make them work. I see the issue though, Ill see what I can do today. :)

I found the trouble, the chrono escapement was scrambling the linkages when renamed. On next update this is fixed and you can name them as you wish,
Im not sure how much toruble to fix whats broken, but it may fix with a single rename operation, so Id try that before redoing all the linkages.
Ill post a notification when I do the update upload.
Thx
