4th axis - ?? Object ignored as non-4th axis Objects ??

Post by NiqBox »

WIN10 - Gearotic II v3.17000
I have seen a 4.xxx version in some documentation
I just downloaded and licensed this month, did I get a hold of an old version?

Object selected is a simple 24t Bevel gear on its axle
The only object on the canvas.

Properties - Selected Props - Send to 4th axis
Message on screen: ?? Object ignored as non-4th axis Objects ??
Note: Copying from the log is useless - where is that log? only in memory?

So, I sent it to the 3-axis, it let me
...only offers 'engrave' as output option!?

Bevels are for the 4th axis output only!?
What am I missing?

Hi:

Bevels cannot be cut by conventional machining, even on the 4th axis. The use of 4th axis for gears in Gearotic is a tangential method where the
gear is rotated to where the flute or saw is tangential to the curve and the curve is then shaved. This works very well for almost all gear types, but Bevel and elliptical cannot be made in a 4th axis environment. Bevels in particular are very hard to machine with almost any
method due to the shrinking involute. Gearotic has no way to machine these, often , depending on use, the STL of a bevel is used to 3d print a master for a casting pour to make that type of gear.
