I can create spokes on a spur gear only.
When I try a Helical or Bevel gear Spokes don't show up.
Is this a problem or software limitation?
Thanks.
Rick
Spokes- Can't create spokes
Re: Spokes- Can't create spokes
Hi Rick:
It was a limitation of GM that helicals and bevels couldnt have spokes, however, in GT spokes ARE
allowed on helicals, and they automatically show up when loaded into GT. Bevels are special however
in that the way they are built precludes spokes due to complexities in the creation process. I may , but probably wont, allow spokes in bevels at a later date. ( Bevels never really have spokes in industry that Ive seen) Spokes in helicals and pretty much all other types as well as user defined types will be allowed.
I hope to have another version of GT out within a 2-3 week time frame that allow helicals with spokes, herringbone gears and allow the user to change shaft holes, collars and such as well as square shafts,
keyways and such. That much is already written.
Unfortunately, until I get to the stage where GT creates the objects itself, youll have to load GM projects
into GT to see the spokes in helicals, or to do such mod's. GT is my answer to adding the complexities I needed as a programmer to allow for many of the wish list items asked for over the last 2 years. Many of them are coming soon.. many are coming later in the fall in GT when its officially released under a new name ( GT is just a development code name ). At the point GM will cease to exist and the new program will be "Gearotic Motion presents "Christ Knows 1.0" )
Youll then have many more options for creation as well as display.
Thx

Re: Spokes- Can't create spokes
Art,
Thanks for the quick response.
Excuse my reiterating, GT is a program that is not available yet, that will be available soon and will replace Gearotic Motion?
Is that a correct statement? Will licensed GM users automatically become a GT licensed user?
Thanks.
Rick

Re: Spokes- Can't create spokes
Hi Rick:
>>Excuse my reiterating, GT is a program that is not available yet, that will be available soon and will replace Gearotic Motion?
GT is available in its very alpha form, if you install the Development version an icon will appear on your desktop for it. Its released
in its current state simply so one can create solid models of items that are not properly done in GM. Simply load a GM project and the helicals and bevels can be right clicked in the tree to select "Export STL" which will then save perfect stl's closed and ready for whatever use you have of the stl form of the gears. It WILL eventually replace GM.
>>Is that a correct statement? Will licensed GM users automatic ally become a GT licensed user?
Yes, whenever I take on such a project, you never pay again once your licensed. GT is no exception. In fact Ill likely grandfather all GM users for all future software I write. As with Mach3, I believe while I write the programs, the users support me in doing so, so future users pay whatever the going rate is at the time, previous supporters get the benefit of having gotten in early by paying less. To this day there are thousands of Mach3 users who payed $50.00 for their license, all upgrades have always been free. GM, GT ( or whatever it ends up being named :) ) will be the same.

Re: Spokes- Can't create spokes
Art,
I can't seem to load both the current release and the current development program. The one wants to overwrite the other. Don't I need to create the stl in the current release then import it into the development program?
Thanks.
Rick

Re: Spokes- Can't create spokes
Hi Rick:
No, the development program should overwrite the Release. The Dev program can do all the release version can and more. Once you install the dev version, just use that version of GM from then on.
GT will be an icon on your desktop if your using the current dev version of GM. Save a project file as you normally would in GM. Once done, run GT. Use the Import "+" icon
to load a GM project. All the parts of your GM project will appear in GM. They may not be meshed together properly but their just there to appear in a tree for selection to save as STL
files. There's no other real funtionallity in the GT provided as yet.
Let me know if I'm not understanding the question properly.
Thx
