Installing a new version

What is the correct way to install a new version of GT (windows 8.1) ?

In the windows control panel when I went to uninstall another program I noticed 5 versions of GT installed ?

When installing a new version of GT I have just been installing in the same directory as previous versions
Am I building up trouble for myself ?

Should I be deleting first ? ( via windows control panel)
When I do delete GT some folders are left

Not too bothered about all this but don't want to lose designs in the future
Any advice or tips about this from long term GT users would be welcome

Ian

Hi:

  GM has no real uninstall requirments, it uses only files in its own folder, never outside, so to uninstall, just delete the folder. You can always reinstall or install new versions right on top of old, you wont lose anything. Various versions of windows will report several versions installed, but really its one install being remembered multiple times.

Thx
Art

Ian;

 The way I undersatnd it is that it's OK to install G2 in the same directory as newer versions get released, and should not present any problems for you down the road. To re-iterate, G2 (Gearotic II) is the newest platform available and what we suggest you use, while GT(Gearotic Thoughts) was the previous one, and before that was GM (Gearotic Motion) which are no longer supported with the introduction of G2 late last year. There was issues way back between importing project files from older versions such as GM to GT or into G2, but generating any new project files using G2, should not be a problem importing them back into G2 or with any new futur versions down the road. If your using GM or GT however, it is likely you'll run into those importing problems again should you begin to use G2....
 The control panel uninstall feedback your reading on this forum was more or less for people having issues installing G2, were they may of had installed the software in multiple folders other than the default directory (C:Gearotic Motion), or simply had some Windows configuration issues. To conclude. you may delete these older versions from your control panel if you'd like, but it is not necessary if G2 works fine for you.

Cheers
Bob
