Hi Art,
Great video I really enjoyed the explanation of how it all works.  Just a little question doesn't a 30 tooth escape wheel with a one second pendulum turn once per minute?

John:

:), Good..your watching me closely. Your quite right, A seconds pendulum ( about 39 inches) takes 2 seconds for its period.
( 1 second each way), so the 30 tooth takes 30 full cycles for 1 minute and one rotation . A 1 second period pendulum would be
2 rotations of the ratchet for each minute or 1 tooth per second. I had in my mind a 1 second period. Sorry for any confusion,
Ill clear that up in the video completion.

Ya:  Sorry for that error, I havent had it as yet, but Ill add some safeties in there. Its young and sensitive to how its used,
I imagine Ill just have to add some safeties when I fiond what type of combinations create the error.  As to the docking, Ill
list it for investigation, I never undock so I havent as yet discovered its limits.

Thx
ARt

Hi,
i am getting a problem with the latest version where if i open a project file it adds it to
the project i have on screen instead of swapping it...if you get what i mean. i have to close
the program and start again.

On the subject of docking the properties windows, i am mainly using a wide screen laptop so
I much prefer docking it to the side, but when i do this the columns could do with changing
to one above the other instead of side by side, and maybe need a scroll bar.
Or would it be possible to add the properties tabs to the project/tools window.

All looking good with each new release,
I could do with the "reverse direction on shaft" for bevels option when you get a chance  :)

Cheers, steve.

Hi Steve:

Thx, Ill add those to my list. Ill make sure the bevels can be reversed as well.

The docking behaviour is hard to manage in that framework, dialogs that reformat are time
consuming to do so I havent attacked them as yet, but will soon.

Thanks Art,
now having new problem, I think probably due to me doing thinks wrong,
after creating a train of gears I realised I had a link in the wrong place,
so i deleted the shaft hoping to then create a new shaft in the right place.
the old shaft is deleted, but the gears that were connected to it disappear
from the project tree, but stay visible on screen, but are unelectable, so there
is no way to reconnect them. or remove them.

sorry about all the puppies !
steve

edit:
Managed to remove the gears from the screen, switching to "sort by type" view
in project tree and they still appear, tried to relink them but it all went a bit crazy.

Steve:

thx, Ill add to my list a check on shafts, generally a shaft should never be deleted unless it has nothing on it, so Ill code up some way to double check
or fix a database that is screwy....

Steve:

Found the issue, Ill soon release a fix that helps track the objects better. Ill also add a "Add Shaft" button so if you
delete a shaft you can add another one to relink things to..

Thx for the bug, Ill spare that puppy..

I clicked on the AutoTrain button, and it said it needed to do some calculations and would be back in a minute.  I just got an error box saying...

c:\Program Files\Gearotic Motion Release\gprimes3.bin was not found.

The Gear Train Calculator then never shows any gear combinations.

Turns out it was a permissions problem.  GT tries to write to "c:\Program Files\Gearotic Motion Release" but can't.  I need to run it as administrator

Hi:

Ahh, right. The default install location is no longer Program files, unless you redirect it I think it goes to C:\Gearotic Motion\ which should allow the files.

That particular security issue is one of the dumber things they ever did...

What happens if you find Gearotic Motion Release in the file manager, right click on it, select Properties, then the security tab, and add Full Control permissions for your user account?  It'll take administrator permissions to do it, of course.

IIRC everything in the Program Files directory creates a shadow file when changed; I think this was a consequence of a compatibility thing for .ini files, but it's been a while since I've looked at it.  Not sure if that would cause a problem.
