Dan:

I think there seems to be sufficient interest to delve a bit into tickers.. Ill post plans for the one I built, and I
intend to build more, they are very mesmerizing and great wall art. (Your video shows as private..cant see it..)

I know a lot of people have said they admire this type of art, but dont think its easy to build. They are pretty easy
with some thought and experimentation. They seem to have a few secrets and tricks, and Im sure its possible to get real
deep into mysterious motion, so I'll make a video on constructing this "Gearotic Ticker#1" , make its plans public
domain and see if we can interest people in making more of them.

Hi All:

For anyone interested, here is the final sculpture..though its designed to have changeable vanes so its never really complete..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkuX-VCXtSo

Cost was about $30.00 in wood, and abouit 16 1/4" bearings that I get from Ebay in bulk lots when I can find them.
Runs about an hour or two on a wind..Should look impressive on a wall upstairs. :)

I unprivatized the setting in youtube- should work.
I love your version . Sort of looks like davids frolic. I love it. Hope to see the plans.
Did you laser cut a lot of the parts?

I do like that design as well. Do I hear the telltale clicks of a chrono like escapement in there? It hides its design well and looks good!

I will put out the plans shortly, but theres a bit more to do on it
till I hang it ( hopefully next week.). The only laser cut parts are the vanes
flipping about on the outside, all other parts are cnc cut of hand cut on the
bandsaw ( tooth trigger plates and such). I think what Ill do is a video showing
the process from GT designing, to CAD changes to the output, to structure
and build just so people who have never done such a thing can get over
some of the less obvious bumps in the process..

There are pins in the inner and outer flywheels. On the center gear there are 2 pawls . The click sound is from the pawls sliding over the pins. Since that video was taken I reduced the sound quite a bit by placing a piece of heatshrink over the pins I bet silicon rubber tubing would even be better. Ed Legler provided me with some drawing of the timing.  The way it works is that the inner flywheel slows  and the outer flywheel slows then the pawl on the outside of the center gear catches a pin. That is just enough to allow the pawl on the inner side of the center gear to release momentarily to allow the constant force spring to rotate the gears before the inner pawl catches again. If you are interested I can email you Ed's  drawings.

Ahhh..No, now that I look again with your description I see how it works. I have one I built
last year with the same principle, the two flywheels must be turning in opposite directions
AND the main must be turning CW to hit the trigger.. Its a clever implementation of the type
used in Roy's Monarch.. nice.

Hi All:

Video for escapements is online at http://youtu.be/_5NaigNYoZo
Next release will be shortly with various fixes in it for reports up
to present. Next module to be developed will be ratchets followed
by noncirculars ( or thats the plan..). A video on building a Ticker
will also be done very shortly..

Thx
