Welcome to all the new members this month

Post by ArtF »

Hello Everyone:

This has been an extraordinary month with well over 100 new members. With
this many new members I thought perhaps Id write an entry to welcome
everyone who has joined us recently.

Gearotic is now about 2.5 years old since it went out of beta. In that time
its grown quite a following and we are very pleased with the community
responce showing us examples of your work and suggestions on how to improve.

Gearotic's official development season is from around September to March
each year. I say official because thats the period where most releases are
put out. In fact the programs continues development year round, but I use the other
six months for research on how to offer better features or for major teardowns
of sections of the software to upgrade them for future releases as the complexity
factor grows. Ive started such a teardown this past week.

The majority request I get, other than for specific gears like worm gearing,
is a way to allow a higher degree of freedom in the project manager, meaning to
allow the gears to actually move their shafts around another gear rather than
only gears rotating on a non-moving shaft. This is a goal for the next season
of releases. At the same time, its pretty obvious that many users use GM to
create the dxf's they need for further processing in whatever cad program they
are used to (Its true primary purpose). A secondary goal for the next season is a CAD tab where users can
immediately move a gear to for further processing like engraving a rim or
removing teeth..etc.  Ill keep you posted and show video's as any release of such
features gets close.

Again, Welcome to all the new users, and thank you to all our long time friends,
many of you I know from my days at Mach3, ( I have this amazing ability to
recognise many names from the over 50,000 users who licensed Mach3 :-)).

I hope you enjoy Gearotic Motion as much as I enjoy writing it, and feel
free as always to drop suggestions or to show us what you build.

Art & Bob
