As a new user should I evaluate and use just GT ?

  Primarily yes. But GM has more objects in it, non-circulars for example..so if you need those, use GM, if you
dont..Id use GT. Hopefully it will only be a couple months till GM is completely replaced by GT and will then be deleted,
but till then they both have some utility. GT will have all GM in it eventually..just on steroids. :)
