Can't see a measurement when using Measure Icon

Post by Krissy »

When I click the Measure icon, I am able to see a white line being drawn while i hold down the left mouse button but no measurement is shown. The only numbers I see moving are the x and y coordinates (which move all the time anyway).

Anyone know how I can read measurements?

Thanks

Krissy:

If you drag the center bar downwards ( click on the bar between the display section the the bottom section and hold it while pulling down..)
youll probably find the display of the distance is blocked by the bar. Thx for the report, I will move it upwards. Some displays depending
on resolution hide that reading..

Art,

I tried that too - the white line appears but I can't find any kind of result anywhere on the screen including closing the windows.

Steve:

Are you getting all other text on the screen? The version I just posted had the text moved up a few lines to make sure its more easily seen..
Is this with the latest version as of a couple days back?

Art,

Well, to be honest, getting the different windows up on the screen takes some repeated attempts, but I get all the other windows up.  This is on the download from last night because I was thinking that I had an earlier version.  I was trying to measure the boss of the gear so I would know how big the shoulder washers would have to be.

What I see happening is the line draws, but as soon as you let the mouse button up, it disappears.  Tried it again today with latest development version.  Same with the undo in a different post.

Steve:

What happens if you use the option in the systems options for "small" fonts?

Can you tell me your screen resolution?

Hi Art,

Resolution is 1280 x 768, 32 bit.

Same result with small - I was using medium - same with large

Steve:

Thx, Ill do a check for low resolutions and move it up if detected, that may be the best way to handle it..

In my case I can see the line and the displayed distance but as soon as I release the mouse button it disappear.

I saw a tutorial where the measurements were shown like on a mechanical drawing but I can not find that option.

How can I make the measurements snap to shaft centers?

Bertho:

You cant make the measurement snap ( but thats a good idea, I may have to steal it..)
, if you wish to see the center distance bwteen two gears, just hold down your
crtl key and select each of them in the project tree. When G2 see's you have two gears
selected it will then give you the actual distance between them.

Thanks Art for a very fast reply to my questions.
When I click and drag the distance is properly displayed in the project window as long as I keep the mouse button pressed.
When I release it both the measured line and the text disappears.  Moving the center bar down does not help.

Unrelated: I tried to attached a screen capture.  I am probably missing something obvious but it looks like it requires having the image on website and then insert its URL.
There got to be a simpler way but that is what is shown in the help file for inserting a picture.

Hi Bertho:

Sorry about that one, its a bug caused by recent additions to the base. Ive made the measurement text stick as of next update. (likely around 2-3rd week of October..)
