Dan:

Did the pinion actually appear on the project screen? Im flumoxed, the program shouldnt be lookign for anything
at that point. Do any other items work or is it just circular gears doing this to you?

Art: the pinion did not appear on the screen.

this all occurred in ver. 2.265.
I down loaded ver. 2.2 and had the same results.

I installed Ver. 2.265 on another computer and it works fine.

Do you suppose I have a computer problem??
I am using a HP desktop computer with windows 7 Ultimate.
this problem occurred over night.
suggestions please.

No, I think you have some seting set wrong..and its stuck in there.
Try this.. Run the program, then do a ctrl-alt-del to bring up the taskmanager.
Kill the Gearotic.exe process and then retsrat the program. You should then be asked if you wish to
reset all settings. Select yes. Does it now work properly?

Art: this is weird.
I had ver.2.0 on my computer. Tried what you suggested . but did not get the screen to reset all settings.
I then right clicked on the program to open it . there I got a choice to "trouble shoot compatibility". I selected it and went through the process.
when I opened the program through this process I got the message that I was not licensed and output was restricted. This is not correct.
I went ahead any way and the program worked fine like it should.

I then closed Gearotic 2.2 and reopened it by double clicking on the Icon. The message came up that I was Licensed. The problem is that now once again I could not move Anything into the project.

I then installed Ver. 2.266 and opened the program. The same old problem is still there. I could not move the pinion to the program section. I did not get the message that I  was not licensed.

I then tried the compatibility route. I still could not move a pinion into the program section.

Here is my  take on this situation
I can use Ver. 2.02 unlicensed and move parts into the project section and not be able to save anything.
Or I can be licensed. in either Ver. and not be able to move anything into the program.
Either way I am up a creek without a paddle.
Help Please

Dan:

Is your program installed as C:\Gearotic Motion?? (  Or did you install it somewhere else?)

Dan:

If your folder isnt off the root of your drive ( ex: C:\Gearotic Motion ), but is in C:\Program Files\Gear...

please delete the folder , and reinstall as C:\Gearotic Motion. Let me know if this fixes your trouble..

Hmm, this one is weird. It tickles my memory that someone had a similar error.. Im pretty sure its related to Windows security.

Where is your GearData folder located? Is it in the default location or pointing somewhere else?( Check options for its location..)

Have you tried running as admin? Does it work the same?

Thx

Art: Good news. Running as administrator works. Happy days are here again.
Thank you for your help and persistence.

Dan:

Glad to hear. You can set the properties of the icon to always run in amin. Im still not sure why a few need to do that
and most dont seem to. I still use XP mainly.. but Ill keep in mind to further investigate that.

Thx

Art, It only lasted 2 days. Now the program will not move wheel or pinion to the project even when I run it as administrator. ( Unknown file not found).
this is very frustrating.

Art; I have it working again,  that is I can copy gears in to the program.
In the meantime I installed Gearotic motion on two other computers and it works fine.
That left me with a problem unique to this computer. All my other programs are working fine on this computer.

Here is what I did. The only thing left that i could figure was a corrupted file some where in the Gearotic motion program.
I remembered that uninstalling a program  does not necessarily remove all the program files.
So I Deleted all the Gearotic motion files and then uninstalled Gearotic motion.
Re-installed it, added the License and it works again.
I will see how long it takes me to screw it up this time.

Thanks for all your help
