True Epicycloidal profile?

Post by JohnHaine »

Out of interest, is the epicycloidal profile in Gearotic a true profile or does it use the circular approximations defined in the Swiss or British standards?

Hi:

As I recall I implemented it to the British/Swiss spec of circular approximations
in order to match their spec.

Art, just to raise another question about this.  I've got interested in just how well these approximate cycloidal gears actually perform (or don't) and how they might be optimised whilst staying with the circular approximations.  The result could be that for a given pair of gears the parameters would be different.  Is this something the user can change easily, or could it be made changeable?  Obviously it would be nice to stay with the Gearotic framework and all the various tools and tweaks available.
