AutoTrain Part 2

Post by Rocket »

Hi Art,

Is there a simple way to downsize the spur gear diameters in
your video "Auto Train Part 2"?

Some of the larger spurs wheels are over 12 inches in diameter.

I cannot cut them that large on my CNC.

Can they be scaled down and still result in a clock that works???

RR:

The size of any gears is related to the MOD setting. Its linear, so if the gears are 12" with MOD of 6, use an MOD of 3 will make them 1/2 the size for example..

If I understand correctly, I would select one at a time the
two very large spurs (over 12" in dia.).

Delete each one of those two, one at a time,
and then make each one again with a MOD 2 instead of MOD 3.5. (approximation for talking about this)

Is that right?

Well, Youd be better off just taking note of the number of teeth on each gear and making
one from scratch..

Once you get used to it, and armed with tooth counts and how they connect, it takes
only 20 minutes to make one that looks like that..

Thank you,

Is there anyway to get a file that I opened up in Cut 2d Desktop into
Gearotic?

Okay.

If I have a DXF files that I purchased from Clayton Boyer.

If have a have tooth count, is that all I need in Gearotic to
make comparable gears to build a clock with?

Yes, when your designing a clock, its all about the ratio of one gear to the other
in tooth count, size is unimportant. Design the gears to be a size you feel you can cut,
and pick whatever decorations you like in terms of spokes..
