laser cut clock face and backing
laser cut clock face and backing
I got really interested in flourishes and one day came across Pinterest. Some of the various items are pretty artistic and are free. So I click on a picture of an item that I thought would look cool and then using a raster to vector converter I created a dxf file . Last, in my CAD program, I had to modify the drawing because some aspects of the drawing were to thin even with my laser. By rescaling and manually adjusting the widths of stem parts I got it to where I could laser engrave and laser cut the backing and birch ply clockface.
I think it came out pretty good. So I down loaded several more free items and converted them also. Now I have a small library for future clocks.
Last christmas my wife was stressed out about what to give our friendly neighbors for christmas. So she as most smart women dumped that on me and suggested that I make them clocks. So for my Japanese neighbor I did a Kanji clock, I did a Notre Dame south facing window for another neighbor and a gearotic flourish for another. They all seemed very delighted with them and now have them hung on their walls.
Here is a picture of the first Pinterest that I did. I love lasers!

Very, very nice. How did you attach that piece to the wall? Is it one big piece mounted on the wall or segments. BTW I am now going to try do do some inlays.

Re: laser cut clock face and backing
Thank you....
Each piece is separate, I did not want to mount any type
of backer board. I used 3M super bonding double sided tape
for each segment. Not easy to do, but worth the effort.
I think if I wanted to take it down, I would have to install new
drywall and paint!
I am not sure what you mean by inlays?

See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yq4akQnHWSE obviously I am not starting out with such a complex piece.

I'm not sure how they did it but I think it is how bright one object is over another.
