Hi I have finished creating with gearotics a clock for my friend. Designed the ratios using a spreadsheed drew the frame with draftsight, cut the acrylic with my laser cutter. Keeps good time (< 1 minute in three weeks) and will be giving it to my friend in a week. Really enjoyed the project, all brass components were made on my lathe.
Centres layout dxf so helpful in creating the frame
Used a synchronous motor at 1 rpm for my UK 50hz mains, found it hard to source a 50hz but could have used a 60hz and adjusted the ratios.

Re: 60th birthday clock
That is really cool.
I think that a synchronous motor counts line frequency, so the long term accuracy should be nearly perfect.

Re: 60th birthday clock
Thank you, I am really pleased with how it has turned out, looking forward to giving it to my friend later this week. I have printed a sheet on its construction and calculations so he can see how it was made. I am now thinking of making a similar one with an escapement and pendulumBobL wrote: Nicely done CSI, awesome job and thanks do much for sharing.
Re: 60th birthday clock
Hi, Steve, you are absolutely correct. The motor does use mains frequency and consequently it is very accurate. I have been running it for three weeks now and it is still spot on. Which is a very different place for me for my pendulum clock I built in the past.steve323 wrote: That is really cool.
