Re: Version 2.298 online.
Yeah, Ive noticed that. My everyday, youthfull Brad Pitt-like looks always seem
to come out looking more like an old curmudgeonly Charles Darwin...
Im searching in the code for the bug..

Re: Version 2.298 online.
It's the webcam and it's driver's fault. M$ has a "how-old.com" web site, and it says I'm 73 from a jpg off the LifeCam. Not even close, and in the wrong direction. The camera really does add (at least) 10 years.

Re: Version 2.298 online.
Dont feel bad Kirk.. Im 56.. My B&W photo from the video example came out as 65. I figured maybe it was because it was
black and white, so I snapped a quick colour one, it was then 75. So as I laughed, I turned up the lights and tried again. I was
then 85. Having gained 20 years in 10 minutes I gave up as the math indicated Id be dead of old age within the hour.

Looking at the world around me, Im not sure getting younger would be an improvement. :)

So we have reached the singularity, and they're trying to get rid of us, starting with the mature citizen programmers that might notice first?ArtF wrote:Having gained 20 years in 10 minutes I gave up as the math indicated Id be dead of old age within the hour

Ok, Art
My son just called me to tell me all about the tv show called "Shark Tank" that aired tonight. There were 2 girls on (one of whom has recently left Microsoft) have formed a company to sell figures created by having a customer submitted a photo which they will then put a 3D image of that person's head on a super hero body. My son reports that the Shark Tank staff had valued the company at over $1,000,000 and they were interested in the company. The short fall right now is they don't have the 3D software developed yet.
Here's your chance to get stinking RICH, Art!
My son says if you can't locate the show info, he will do some more legwork, if you need it, though we both figured you's have no problem finding it!

Amazing world isnt it? I wish them great luck, I suspect they had calls
from a host of good mathematicians the day after. Im still working on a much
improved ( hopefully) 3d puller for the fall, perhaps Ill add a superhero
body arrangement.. :)

I might add one other thing, while you CAN get 3d heads from a single photo, they usually rely on a trick
of using whats called an EigenHead, there are a small number of head shapes called Eigenheads that come
close to 90% of human head shapes, while they look not much like the person, if you then print a photo
of that person on that shape, it then looks fairly good. Remove the photo and the effect goes away.
I suspect that fact will lower the 1 million appraisal quite a bit. :)

Re: Version 2.298 online.
In my lifetime I've run across many "experts" that talk a good talk. But in this case I know someone that not only can talk the talk, but actually has an example running in code. There's a big difference between these principals. Maybe they would be interested in purchasing a library of functions. I love to see the worthy get their just rewards.

Re: Version 2.298 online.
you could say gearotic is worth more than 1 mill,
but if someone makes a half arise product that takes 3 weeks to do something that can be done in a day with the many other 3D scanners, printers its not worth a mill then

Re: Version 2.298 online.
Here is my latest project. Same subject. Moved camera to center of screen. Let the Gearotica iterate all night long. I used a .0624" ball nosed, 2 flute end mill for the final pass. I am very impressed, but still want more detail.
Now I think I need to find a primer that I can paint on to remove the wood grain while not filling in any detail. Any ideas? Also a much smaller cutter is needed to get more detail.
I need to know where I could find High Density urethane foam? Would normal foam sheets from Home depot work? Seems like it would be very messy? I am also somewhat limited by a 2,000 rpm spindle!!

Very nice...
As to methods, so far Ive only played in foam, and one in wood. Dark wood doesnt work very well I find.
The Foam is the best, check with a sign shop, they may sell you a chunk, its very expensive..
The Foam from home depot does work well actually, and without as much mess as youd think, but the real
sign foam powders away like fine white sand. I find so far the best effect is on any material thats flat in texture,
shadows well without specular highlights..
Let me know how you make out. Im investigating in my time off possible ways to make all this much better..
