I'm new to Gearotic. I've done some gear design in AutoCAD and Solidworks the old school way. Gearotic makes that orders of magnitude easier. I'm waiting on parts to come in for a small CNC router (Openbuilds C-Beam, Cool Tool SandyBox, Gecko G540, NEMA 23's). In the meantime I'm getting started on a wooden gear clock design, using Clayton Boyer's book as a reference (doesn't everybody?).
I'll be taking the dxf (or possibly the stl) files from Gearotic into Solidworks for the final assembly design. Something that I haven't been able to find yet are the shaft center to center distances. This is critical information for a frame assembly and, of course, must be available in Gearotic someplace. The manual measuring tool doesn't snap to centers (I don't think) so it's really only good for approximate measures.
Forgive me if I've just overlooked the obvious somewhere, but where can I find this information?
Thanks,
Jeff

Re: Shaft Center to Center Distances
I hate making a fool of myself on a first forum posting, but I managed it. :'(
I exported my gear sets to dxf and, wouldn't you know it, there's a button clearly labelled "Shafting DXF". Just like that, my issue is moot.
Apologies for wasting anybody's time.

Hi Jeff:
Theres also on the screen when you select a gear in the project window
a list of pertinent text on each gear, and if you select any two gears at once. (Hold down the ctrl as you
click them in the window OR on the tree), text will appear showing the exact distance between
any two objects selected.
Let us know how it all works out, :)

Hi Art and thanks for the quick response.
I thought that would be the case, but that's not showing up on my screen anywhere that I can see. See attached:

Jeff;
Is your monitor set to a lower res? I'm wondering if that has something to do with you not seeing the window tab on top. In the past I had a few customers with similar problems, turned out by adjusting their screen resolution fixed it, however I agree with Art with this one, try moving it down first see if that helps any.
Cheers
Bob

Gents;
That screen shot i posted was only a partial clip. I've attached the full screen (less the Windows taskbar) below. The res on my laptop is 1600 x 900. I have a secondary monitor at 2560 x 1440, but placing Gearotic on there doesn't make a difference in this case (although the work area gets huge and the text quite small).
