Encountered an improper property

Post by CBoenig »

Hello,

I'm a new gearotic user and I have problem with Circular gears. If I check the button circular I allways get the Message "Encountered an improper property".
I was clicking around before and maybe I've choosen a combination which is not allowed. I've completely deinstalled the software and installed new but the
problem remain. What can I do. The message doesnt tell what is improper. Nothing works after clicking the "circular" button after the first time.
I'm working on Windows 8.1 with Gearotic 2.0 version. I've downloaded the dev Version but its the same.

Best regards
Chris

Chris:

A setting may have goten locked in that causes a divide by zero. I try to fix this whenever I find it..

To get back to defaults, start the program, then ctrl-atl-delte and run the task manager. Kill the gearotic process.
When you try to runthe program again, it will ask if youd liek to reset it all back to start. Choose yes and you should be fine.
Please notify me though if you find what settign it was,...so I can kill it form happening again..

Hello Art,

thanks for your tip but it doesn't work. I get no question after using task manager and restarting the program.
So I've deinstalled the complete program like I have done before, but this time I was looking in the registry for items related by Gearotic.
The deinstaller does not remove all entries. The complete "Gearotic-Thoughts" stays in registry after deinstallation. I think that was the reason why a new installation hasn't fixed
the problem before. After removing the complete Gearotic-Thoughts tree in the key Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software and reinstall I'm able to work again.

I will test and will have a look if I change properties when the problem comes again.

Best regards
Chris

I have the newest version (2.02) and have this same problem. I closed Gearotric using the task manager and no where does it give me an option to set back to defaults. I'm at a road block because the it errors everytime I click on the circular gear tool button. Maybe there is a way to make clocks without gears. :) Thanks for your help guys. Let me know what I can do.

Hi Jackon,

Yes, please download the development version , that version will always ask if youd like to reset if it isnt
closed down properly. ( Crash or task stoppage).  Let me know if it doesnt help..

Thx

I had  a persistent problem that would not go away.
There is one other thing you might try. Some times a file will get corrupted and cause all kinds of strange things to happen. Uninstalling and reinstalling a program will not always fix the problem. That is because uninstalling the program does not remove all the files.
You must go in to  the program and manually delete all the files and then uninstall and reinstall the program.
That is the only way to assure that the program is is totally new.
Good Luck
Dan
